Clients - The one thing your business can't do
without My
teenage daughter works for Kroger food stores. Her paychecks
have the following statement: 'Satisfied customers made
this check possible'. The same is true for our image consultanting
businesses. Without happy clients, there is no business.
Competition
in the image business is tremendous. Women are very
willing to spend their money on their image and they are
constantly bombarded with opportunities for spending it. Having
wonderful products at great prices is a good start to attracting
and keeping clients, but it isn't enough. What we offer
our clients is the Personal Touch. When a client
feels
special, knowing that there is a trusted person she can turn
to for answers to all her image concerns, she will be a
loyal, long-term client. She can't get that in the makeup
aisle at the grocery store, and she can't get it at the
makeup counter in the department store. What can
you do to create that trusted bond with your clients?
In this and the next issues of this newsletter, we will
look at several of the ways you can give your clients
the Personal Touch. For
starters, clients like to get a good deal! Not just a good
deal, but a special deal. BC products at BC prices are a
good deal, and our clients like it when they get even
more than that. Offering special prices or discounts is an
effective way to both encourage a client to purchase products
and let her know that you value her in your business.
It's
your business, so you set the prices, right? How much discount
is enough and how much is too much? The answers to these
questions are very subjective. It is affected by the time
of year, the client's interest level and even the part of
the country you are in. However, many consultants have the
tendency to 'give away the farm'. Unless you don't
care about making money in your business, don't do that!
Take a careful look at the dollars flowing into and out of
your business. Consider how much profit you have available
to give away. If you need a good income from your
business and are barely making enough profit, then selling
products at a significant discount will not serve you
well. How can
you tell how many dollars are flowing into and out of your
business? The NutShell Income and Expense Log will give you
this information with just a little help from you. Enter
your activity every day that you work your business and you
will always know how much profit you have made. When you
enter and close your invoices (sales) and purchase
orders (inventory
orders), NutShell will make automatic entries into the
Income and Expense Log for you. For other income, such as
commissions and other payments, make entries in the Log
when you
receive the payments. Do the same for your expenses. When you
spend money for any business-related expense, enter the
transaction into Log. Do this every time you spend money
on your
business. This will help you know how much money you are
making (or losing)! When you keep the Income and Expense Log up
to date, you will have a good understanding of the financial status
of your business. You will be able to make sound
decisions about when and how much discount to give your clients.
You
want your client to feel special and you don't
want to
break your bank doing it! If you find that you don't want to
give away so much of your hard-earned profit, we will find
other ways to give your client the Personal Touch.
Check

stands to the groom’s left at a wedding so that his
sword hand would be free. Apparently Anglo-Saxon brides were
often kidnapped before a wedding and brawls were the
tribe’s best warrior was there to help the groom defend the
bride.
As a
consultant, you purchased the Give it up Girl lip colors as Sales
Aids, rather than Retail A products. It was easy to understand
how to handle them when the promotion was active and you
were trading the BC lip colors for other brands. Now that the
promotion is over, you may still have some of these $2.00
lip colors left in your inventory. You don't have to do anything
special to sell them at full price. It is the same as
selling a Herbal Serenity candle or any other Sales Aid item.
Add the lip color to your invoice (using the Give it up Girl
item number) and change the retail price to the desired amount.
You have already accounted for the expense of these items in
your Sales Aids total of your purchase order, so you are
covered, accounting-wise. (Is that a word?) Thanks
to Roseanne Lange for researching this
question.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Maybe
you have found out that your computer is a great and wonderful
tool! But, if you have found that out, then odds are that
you have also discovered that your computer is a very
particular tool - kind of like a high-maintenance girlfriend!
If everything isn't just so, it can really get unhappy!
You have
probably seen an error message at least once telling
you that your system is 'out of resources'. It's nice
that it told you, but what does it mean and what do you do
about it? Most of
the time, it is a simple problem with a simple solution.
'Resources' is your computer's memory. 'Out of resources'
means your computer is tired. It has been working
hard and needs to be refreshed. How can your computer
get tired? Every time you open a program, the program
uses your computer's memory. When you close the program,
it releases most of the memory so that it is available
for other programs to use. However, not all the
memory is released. When you have used your computer for a
while, opening and closing program after program, the
memory space gets used up. Eventually, you may get the 'out
of resources' error. Your computer is tired and needs a
refreshing night's 'sleep'. OK, how does your computer
get a refreshing 'sleep'? By being rebooted! Rebooting
your computer will free up all the fragmented space in
memory, giving you a fresh start. It is a good idea to
reboot your computer daily. Please
note that if you are having this problem often, even
with rebooting, there may be other, more complex issues
involved.
