Grapevine Mills Mall, which is my
teenage daughters’
favorite place to hang out and shop!

experienced a huge increase in junk

Keep all this paperwork under
control?

Whew! Tax season is over! What a relief!
While you were doing your taxes,
scrambling to complete a
year of
paperwork in 3 days, how many times did you say
to yourself –
‘I am NOT letting this happen next year!’.
Now it’s time to make that a reality.
Bookkeeping is just
like housekeeping or schoolwork or
laundry. If you do it
regularly, and
often, it just really isn’t that much of a
big deal. But,
let it all pile up and you will be hating
it before you
have even started.
What you need is a plan and some
determination. As a
business owner, you are a person who can
come up with both.
The plan will provide the structure and
your determination
will insure
that it happens.
The Plan: Decide on a set day and time
of every week that
you will do your paperwork. This will be
your Bookkeeping
Day. It only
needs to be about an hour long. Every
Bookkeeping Day, your job will be to do
one week, and
only one week
of paperwork. Bookkeeping Day is sacred!
Mark it in your planner. Be as devoted
to Bookkeeping Day
as you are to
the other aspects of your business.
Bookkeeping Day matters just as much as
recruiting and
holding spas.
Staying faithful to your Bookkeeping Day
is important
for the obvious
reason that it will keep you up to date
with your
records. But you will be amazed to discover that
it is even more
important for several intangible reasons.
Doing your books every week and staying
caught up will make
you feel IN
CHARGE! When you feel in charge, you will feel
confident. When
you feel confident, you will take more
action and be more
excited about your business. When you
take more
excited action in your business, it will
grow. It is
like a vicious circle, but rather than being
vicious, it
will be invigorating! Once you get into your
bookkeeping
routine, you will wonder how you ever ran
your business
any other way.
One of the things that will happen when
you have a
regular Bookkeeping Day,
is that you will better be
able to keep your inventory counts
up-to-date. If you
swap product
quite a bit, you may feel especially
challenged about keeping your counts
correct. When you
grab a product
on the way out the door, you aren’t
very interested
in entering an invoice into your NutShell
program right at that moment.
This doesn’t mean that you can’t keep
your counts
correct, though. Get a piece of paper
and pen that you
can keep with
your product. This paper is your Grab Log.
When you grab product on the way out the
door, quickly
jot the name of
the product and who it is for on the
Log. This will take about 5 seconds! As
a responsible
business owner,
you can do this!
Every week, on Bookkeeping Day, start a
new Grab Log
and take the
old one to your desk so that you can enter
invoice(s) for
the product you took out of inventory.
Just these few simple steps will pay off
for you over
time.

made a
simple sheet that you can print. Print
10-15 copies
and you will
have 10-15 weeks worth of Grab Logs. Every
time you grab
product from your shelf, jot it down! Click

NutShell Tip – Tips for
Handling Payments

Selling product
doesn’t help your business unless you
receive
payment. You will have to remind some of your
clients to pay.
To find out who owes you money, run the
Amounts Due report.
This report can be found on the
Client/Colleague screen when
you click the
Print button. Look in the Reports drop-down
list.
Your Amounts Due report will be most
accurate if you keep
your payments
up-to-date in NutShell. Each Bookkeeping Day,
enter all
payments you received in the prior week.
When you enter payments:
-If the
invoice is still open, record the payment on the
Open Invoice screen (Sell button).
-The Payment
Date will default to the current date, so change
it if
necessary.
-If the
invoice is closed, enter the payment on the History
screen in the
‘Amt Paid’ column.
-Again, the
Payment Date will default to the current date.
If you want the Payment Date to show
something other
than the
current date, click the Pay Invoice button in
the upper
left corner of the screen.
It is easy to make a ‘deposit log’ for
all the checks you
deposit on a
certain day:
-Enter the payment (see above) for each check you intend
to deposit.
Use the same Payment Date for each payment
entered.
-Close each
invoice after the payment is entered.
-After all
payments are entered, print an Income/Expense
by Class
report.
-For the
‘From’ and ‘To’ Dates, enter the date that you
used as the
Payment Date for all payments entered.
-Select the
‘Sales’ class so that the only information
that will be
printed is your sales.
-Click OK to
print the report. This makes great
documentation
for all your deposits!

Game – Stealing Hearts
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For this game,
you will need all the heart and diamond
cards from a
regular deck of cards. You will also
need two
or three small
gifts. Any of the ‘mini’ products or
discontinued
products will work well. Wrap them so that
they are very
pretty and desirable.
To start,
explain to the guests that you want them to ask
you questions
about your job with BeautiControl. Encourage
them to be
nosy! Each time a guest asks a question, give her
a heart card
from the deck of cards. The more questions a
guest asks, the
more chances she has of being a winner!
There are 13 Heart cards in a deck, so
there can be 13
questions
asked.
After all the hearts have been given
out, you will have
just the
diamonds in your hand. Pick one and call it out,
but just call
out the number. If you pick the 5 of
Diamonds, call out ‘Five’ and the person
with 5 of Hearts
will get to
pick one of the gifts.
But! Tell her not to get too attached to
it. Call the next
card and the
person who has it can either pick the
remaining gift
or “steal” the gift from the first person.
Continue calling cards and guests will
keep stealing gifts
from each other
until you have used all the Diamond cards.
When you are out of cards, the people
holding the gifts
are the winners
and get to keep the gifts.
At the end of
the game explain that the game is called
“Stealing Hearts” because the career
opportunity with
BeautiControl has stolen your heart!
